The child had been looking forward to stargazing for a long time. Enjoying the delicious food on the boat, stargazing is not only a great outdoor experience but also opens the door to children's curiosity! A fantastic activity 👍. Also, thanks to the warm-hearted A Tu, and thanks to the boat owners. The life jackets were the cleanest we've ever seen on our trips. Full marks 💯

28Atu's expertise amazed me—he knows everything about the sky! Staying up until 3am for the starry sky was absolutely breathtaking. Totally worth it! Thank you Atu for sharing and your enthusiasm.
Stargazing was also on my must-do list this time. Taking a boat to the middle of the lake, focusing intently on the stars and hoping for the Milky Way to appear—what a wonderful experience. Although I don't usually study the night sky much, listening to A Tu's explanations about various knowledge made me marvel at the miracle of the universe and life. I felt that this moment was truly worth it.
For the first time, I truly felt that stargazing is like opening a blind box—it all depends on the weather. The cloud cover and weather changes that day delayed the activity until nighttime, which was a small imperfection. But the beauty was that we still got to see the vast sea of stars, making it a unique experience for our whole family. Atu was really professional. Since I brought my parents and a child this time, I had a lot of pre-trip questions. Thank you, Atu, for your earnest responses. I also look forward to joining Atu again on my own for another stargazing trip next time. P.S. Next time, I'll do some astronomy homework before coming, haha.
Over two years ago, I joined two activities with Cangshan Hiking Home, and both guides were exceptionally professional, gentle, and attentive. So when I returned to Dali this time, I recommended this company to all my friends. One friend is very interested in stars, so we signed up for this project together. Overall, the experience was great. The night we went, the Milky Way was incredibly bright. Lying in a small boat on the lake, the Milky Way was completely visible to the naked eye, with countless stars and even several shooting stars. Everyone was very satisfied. It was a unique and romantic experience. However, there were some shortcomings. I don't know if it's the vibe of Dali itself, but everyone we met on this trip had an attitude of "take it or leave it" or "I don't care about this or that" impatience... The guide wasn't as patient as the previous two; he seemed very sleepy and aloof, not really wanting to engage. Also, the astronomical telescope mentioned in the detailed introduction, which we were very interested in, was not provided. But the level of professionalism was still sufficient. When he wasn't sleepy, his explanations were very professional. It would have been better if he could have been a bit more patient.
Took a boat to the center of Erhai Lake to watch the stars. The wind was strong tonight, rustling the reeds and the lake water. Lying on my back in the boat, facing the night sky, I remembered a similar feeling and the starry sky on the back slope of Lugu Lake in 2021. Atu's little speaker suddenly started playing City of Stars—so fitting and romantic that I wanted to cry. What a phone can capture is too limited, and actually, so is language. I can't express this moment in words; I can only be silent, and then silent again. A few meteors streaked across the sky. When I wanted to make a wish, my mind went blank. Forget it. The development of everything in the universe has its predetermined origin and destination. Close your eyes and feel embraced by the starry sky, like a small boat in the universe or the river of fate—tiny yet infinitely free. We can know the names of all the stars in this region of the sky, but we don't know their true meaning. But actually, meaning is not needed. I will soon forget the names of these stars, but the feeling of this moment, like a knot in a string, will be remembered forever.
A niche and romantic activity in Dali - lying on a boat with kids to watch stars. The Erhai West Lake stargazing activity by Cangshan Hiking Home. Guide: Atu, Stargazing Engineer. Dali is really a treasure. This time I unlocked a new activity with my kid. I learned many stars, understood the Milky Way, and more importantly, I intuitively felt the vastness of the starry sky. It's over an hour's drive from the ancient town. Atu will pick you up and drop you off, and patiently explain the names and stories of each star. I want to say it's more worth experiencing than all kinds of outdoor camps. The whole experience was especially great. Videos and words can't express the shock. Years later, I might not remember the names of the stars, but I will remember this very special experience.
Dali West Lake is really beautiful. Boating on the lake to watch the sunset and stars was amazing. I was thrilled to see Mars, and the moon rising over the lake was so big and red. Perhaps the universe is the ultimate romance.
This is my second time visiting Dali, and I still arranged Cangtu activities every day, trying out all the ones I missed last time. The guides for each activity were absolutely amazing—truly knowledgeable about astronomy, geography, biology, and history. During their explanations, I felt like my long-dormant high school knowledge was attacking me... Stargazing + Hiking + Sunset Watching
Dali West Lake Wetland bird watching and stargazing, with lake and mountain scenery, clouds rolling and unfolding, purple swamphens, gray geese, and trees full of egrets. At night, Orion was right overhead, and we also saw a cluster of Pleiades. I recommend this experience to friends in Dali and those visiting Dali. See another side of Dali!
Indescribable, an absolutely fantastic experience!
Atu is really professional~ A rare experience~
Teacher Atu's passion for the starry sky moved us. The feeling of a sky full of stars was truly magical. We brought our child along, and Atu answered every question seriously. Our child really liked Teacher Atu!
Discovered a treasure, absolutely the best and most special activity I've experienced in Dali. The boat captain was very humorous and witty. Teacher Atu's knowledge of astronomy, geography, humanities, and history was astonishing. He taught us to identify stars, nebulae, satellites, and meteors. I really learned a lot, saw stunning scenery, caught several shooting stars flashing by, and got the photo of a lifetime. Lying on the boat, gazing at the star-filled sky, it was so beautiful I couldn't look away. Time flew by while stargazing. I regret not booking the overnight trip; I will definitely come again!
Super super super perfect itinerary. The whole experience was filled with all kinds of luck. From the start, we happened to see a wildfire on the mountain, but it didn't affect the observation. After nightfall, there were no clouds or wind, the visibility was clear, and we could see many stars with the naked eye. The guide Atu's explanations were very captivating. He meticulously explained many representative stars and combined Eastern and Western stargazing history, humanities, and geography knowledge, making it vivid and interesting. The entire trip was perfect, the happiest journey I've had in Dali!
Atu said I captured the Milky Way, super happy~ It reminds me of that poem: 'Drunk, I didn't know the sky was in the water; the boat full of dreams pressed upon the Milky Way.' I wasn't well-prepared this time, next time I'll bring all my gear and come back to see it again~
Experiencing the romance of the starry sky with Atu
Very good I joined the Lake Stargazing activity and it was absolutely fantastic. The scenery was picturesque and beautiful. The guide, A Tu, took great care of me and my mom. He was also very friendly to all the kids. He was very talkative and outgoing. I had a great time. I learned about many stars, which were very beautiful, and at the end we used a telescope to see Jupiter and Venus.
Like a movie scene A very nice experience. A Tu is a bit slow to warm up but truly passionate about astronomy—he gets really enthusiastic when talking about stars. Taking a boat out on the lake to stargaze was a very romantic experience. The lake was extremely quiet, and the whole experience felt like a movie scene.
Sitting by the fire watching stars With the gentle breeze, sunset glow, and the sound of water, we enjoyed a delicious dinner. While sitting by the fire, listening to A Tu talk about the stars ✨, we experienced a completely different night sky. We even saw three shooting stars, one with a tail! We also saw the Belt of Venus (Earth's shadow). Thank you to nature and the universe for the healing and romance 💕
The most wonderful experience of the trip On the way to Erhai Lake, Atu showed us the Venus Belt, which is the shadow of the Earth. When the boat set off, we saw migratory birds from Siberia and cormorants perched in the trees. We had a delicious dinner and drank tasty yogurt on the boat, lying down and warming ourselves by the fire. Atu brought us sleeping bags. He told us about the Andromeda Galaxy (M31), the Pleiades, and various constellations. We passed through reed marshes and used a telescope to see the rings of adorable Saturn. Those few hours were incredibly peaceful, leaving us just staring at the light that had traveled for thousands or even millions of years, feeling so happy. I recommend this to everyone visiting Dali—it will surely become the most wonderful experience of your trip!
The most worthwhile experience This is the most worthwhile experience in Dali! It brings a shock of starry sky to kids from cities with severe light pollution! The guide Atu explained everything very clearly! He is knowledgeable, well-read, gentle, and patient. Boating on the lake, watching the dark reflections of the mountains, gave a feeling of deep calm. Looking at the countless stars, Atu used an astronomical telescope to show us the moon and find constellations. It was so romantic it almost made me cry. I hope everyone who comes to Dali can have this experience. Please also hold such stargazing activities in other cities, I beg you 🥺
Super happy! The atmosphere of everyone sitting around the fire and chatting was great. Atu patiently answered all our questions. When introducing the stars, the knowledge points were a bit dense and I couldn't keep up haha. I think it would be more intuitive if explanations were given while looking through the telescope. Atu also fulfilled our last-minute requests. It was really a great experience! Hope it gets better and better~
A novel experience Great!!! A very novel experience. Stargazing taught me a lot of astronomy knowledge, and it was also romantic. It felt like I was communicating with the stars following Atu's laser pointer.
Learned a lot of knowledge We were so lucky. At around 4 PM, the weather was still risky, but we went for it. It turned out to be a night where we could see the Milky Way. Although there was some mist, we were already very satisfied. I learned a lot of astronomy knowledge.
Romantic On a new moon night, I went stargazing on a boat with Atu. For the first time, I witnessed the International Space Station orbiting the Earth, a meteor streaking across the sky with green light, and of course, the Milky Way and the M31 galaxy 2.54 million light-years away! I saw Atu's eyes sparkling when he talked about celestial bodies. Besides the host and the boatman, there were two other participants on the boat. I was very happy to have dinner with everyone against the sunset, and later, under the vast night sky, watch meteors streak across the sky; we chatted about ancient myths, the macroscopic world, and us, like specks of dust. It really felt like being drunk, not knowing the sky is in the water, with the boat full of clear dreams pressing on the Milky Way. The universe is so romantic, and we, surrounded by passion, are also cool and romantic~
The sunset and starry sky were incredibly beautiful. Sunset + starry sky were incredibly beautiful (about 1 hour from Dali Old Town by transport, not physically demanding but be prepared for wind and mosquitoes). I saw Elon Musk's Starlink, the Chinese space station, almost saw a shooting star (because I didn't look up, haha), and also saw the 'fire star' mentioned in textbooks—Antares. I spotted constellations like Libra, Scorpius, Cygnus, Aquila, Corona Borealis, and Lyra. I also saw the Big Dipper; the ancient Chinese names for its stars are so beautiful: Tianshu, Tianxuan, Tianji, Tianquan, Yuheng, Kaiyang, and Yaoguang. There were so many stars I can't remember them all, haha. After the 1st, you can see even more. Tonight the moon was quite bright, so the stars were sparse (iPhone photos didn't turn out great, but the host took one with a camera~).
A truly worthwhile experience. I saw my own constellation for the first time and learned to identify directions by the stars. Before it got dark, we also had very authentic Yunnan cuisine on the lake. Thank you, Atu!
