"Taking part in the Eryuan rural trip was pure chance. I chose it from many activities of Cangshan Hiking Family because of the time slot, but it was unexpectedly rich and fun.

I think if there is an order for experiencing Cangshan Hiking Family's activities, the first day must be Aruna. She is really calm and gentle, not at all forced, with a comfortable friendliness, like an old friend you haven't seen for years."

Boat Stargazing · A Tu

This trip we joined five Cangshan Hiking Family programs. If I had to choose one, it must be stargazing, for two reasons: the experience is unique and A Tu is professional enough.

It is easy for us to acquire such professional astronomical knowledge, but to be placed in that darkness, where no one knows each other, no one sees each other, with gentle breezes and ripples, and the sky full of stars, it is a completely different experience.

However, if you bring children in winter, you need to first evaluate whether your kid's interest can sustain two hours of stargazing. Our kid was super engaged, but another child on the boat was not interested, and those two hours were really torture for him.

Ridge of Clouds · Cai Feng (Tailor)

The Ridge of Clouds itinerary is very special. You experience extremely diverse terrain along the way, touching completely different natural textures on each section. I am a frequent hiker, and I still found it interesting!

The guide Cai Feng (Tailor) speaks little but is sincere. He really spent a whole day talking about Naruto with my kid — a whole day! Many times I was secretly worried and feared my kid was too bothersome, but he never was perfunctory or impatient, and he responded to every word.

I have always believed that people who are willing to listen to children carefully must be very kind.

Before departure, I showed my kid the guide introductions. I hoped he would notice each person's unique background. After returning home, he was fascinated and asked me to pull it up again. Combined with Cai Feng's occasional fragments about his own experience during the day, my kid filled in the blanks based on his ideal image, mixing truth and fiction to create a mythical version of Cai Feng. Finally he concluded: 'Mom, I think Cai Feng is the coolest. I have never seen anyone who loves Naruto so much that he opened a ramen shop related to Naruto. I admire him so much!'

Thanks to Cai Feng's dog Guobao, who provided half of the emotional value, and thanks to Cai Feng for creating this beautiful memory for my kid. I think this memory will be stored with him for a long time: on that special February day, he had a very special day with Cai Feng and Guobao.

A Day in a Mountain Village | He Chen · Xiao Li

A Day in a Mountain Village is the itinerary I found most fulfilling. It combines activity and calm, suitable for all ages. The village itself is beautiful. Even if you don't finish the whole route, just sitting on the hillside is entirely enjoyable.

The first time my kid and I met the guide He Chen, we were first attracted by his car. It was full of plant specimens, as if pulling you into the wild, giving a strange sense of time shifting. But later, after seeing the guide Wang Wang's car, my kid said: compared to He Chen, he prefers Wang Wang's specimen decorations (there is a filter for Wang Wang here).

His guiding style is also special, full of vitality. He dares to talk, dares to pick, and dares to eat! He has the spirit and posture of Shennong tasting a hundred herbs (leaving a space for you to experience, so I won't elaborate).

The kid particularly liked the co-guide Xiao Li, commenting that he is humorous, witty, and fun.

I think the quality of all Cangshan Hiking Family activities comes half from the routes themselves, and the other half is entirely shaped by the guides. They have a unique temperament and spiritual core, so they probably cannot be replicated easily in other cities. Interested friends can read the written introductions before or after choosing an activity.

Our Guides & Two Things to Do

Fern Forest · Wang Wang

We joined five Cangshan Hiking Family activities in total, and the Fern Forest was the last one. On the way back, my kid said: 'Now, Wang Wang ranks first in my heart.'

He did not care much about ferns; in his own words, he cared more about the guide. His original words were: 'They are all interesting!' I think the reason Wang Wang won the top spot is that he could respond to every topic my kid brought up. History, natural science, Naruto, Harry Potter — the topics could be expanded in depth. He even felt that Wang Wang and he look alike.

Influenced by mainstream values, my kid's previous wish was simple: Tsinghua, Peking University, Harvard, Cambridge — how grand, how single-minded.

The five-day trip with Cangshan Hiking Family allowed him to meet six different kinds of people in a very short time (we read the guide biographies carefully). Such wonderful and distinct lives opened a window to the world for him. These experiences will take root in his heart and grow with him.

Years later, he could be He Chen, Xiao Li, the tailor, Wang Wang, or any kind of himself he wants to become.
