Foraging Wild Vegetables, Making Tempura
In the years I have lived in Dali, 'foraging wild vegetables' has become a kind of ritual to welcome spring. If you also enjoy foraging wild vegetables, you are welcome to join us up the mountain.

In the years I have lived in Dali, 'foraging wild vegetables' has become a kind of ritual to welcome spring.
If you also enjoy foraging wild vegetables, you are welcome to join us up the mountain.
We will gather at a village at the foot of Cangshan Mountain, pass an ancient mountain temple under cherry blossom trees, and then begin searching for wild vegetables along the field ridge paths. Compared to the farmland beside Dali Road, the fields here are wilder, perhaps because they are closer to Cangshan and more secluded. The path to the mountains is accompanied by the soft sound of flowing water, which comes from a stone ditch hidden by wildflowers. The water in the ditch flows from Cangshan. Even without any purpose, casually taking a walk here is pleasant.
Each type of wild vegetable has its own characteristics. For example, lamb's quarters is photosensitive, and the ones with red stems cannot be eaten; after wild peas flower, they can no longer be eaten. Besides collecting, we will help you get to know the wild vegetables along the way.
Moreover, wild vegetables are only available in spring, and the varieties that grow change every few days. For example, the shepherd's purse in this field is still tender these days, but in a few days it will flower and become tough. When the shepherd's purse here gets old, the lamb's quarters in the neighboring field are just in season. And so on, we cannot guarantee the specific varieties of wild vegetables you will taste.
About the three ways to eat wild vegetables: fried wild vegetable tempura, wild vegetable salad (or omelet), and wild vegetable soup noodles. We are not professional chefs, and we do not make overly complicated food. However, we choose these three ways because simple cooking allows you to better taste the original flavor of the wild vegetables. If you are good at cooking, you are also welcome to cook yourself.
