Local people have the habit of soaking in hot springs, especially when winter arrives or after the first snowfall. Many friends' first reaction is 'go to Xiashankou for hot springs.' Where to go? Dali has many hot springs. Qianhe Hot Spring is one that we ourselves often visit. Di Re Guo is more commercialized for tourism, Niujie is a bit far, though there are some good choices there with more refined hot spring hotels.
Qianhe Hot Spring is one in Xiashankou, run by a family. It is not large, so you don't have to walk far. There is a relatively large swimming pool for swimming, and small soaking pools by the fields, with rapeseed flowers blooming around Chinese New Year. The price is quite affordable, generally 30 yuan per person. They also provide fresh milk (both sweet and unsweetened), which is from their own cows, made by the grandmother, more reliable than typical outside milk.
The hot spring also has an attached restaurant with good food, also run by the family.
This hot spring is the last stop of our Eryuan Countryside Tour. The previous stops are: a hundred-year-old Muslim village, a boat trip to the Xihu Lake reed marshes, and a milk fan workshop.
