I didn't know the host, Ye Xiaoxian, at first; we've only added each other on WeChat.
Once I visited the homestay where Xiaohou was staying, and her husband Li Yan had a gift for me. They joined a hike in 2022 and came again last year, eating at my place and chatting—we've become good friends. This time, Xiaohou brought her newborn baby (one or two months old) for a holiday, staying at Xiaoxian's homestay. For such a situation, the service and facilities need to be thorough and considerate.
However, when I entered through the ordinary-looking gate, the world inside amazed me—beyond the homestay was an open lawn and views of Cangshan Mountain, unobstructed. Such a courtyard is rare. The host's family members were feeding geese on one side of the grass, free-spirited and full of life. According to Xiaohou, the host's boyfriend paints, while she does baking. People who love life and have their own aesthetic sense tend to run good inns, with self-imposed attention to detail. The sunroom and other common spaces are also large and well-equipped, with a kitchen available for use. So I asked Xiaohou to share the host's WeChat and will recommend it to friends when I get the chance.
Rural homestays come in many forms, and this one is quite ideal.
Views from the lawn looking at the homestay and from the homestay looking out: (Compared to overly beautified photos, this one doesn't do justice to the fields and Cangshan Mountain.)
