Dali's halal beef is very special—clear broth, fresh, and fragrant. Because Yunnan has a large Muslim population, dating back to when the Mongol Empire controlled Dali 760 years ago (1265), Zhangjiayuan is a halal beef restaurant we often visit. But many restaurants nearby on 'Halal Street' are also good; everyone seems to have their own favorite.
Note: if you have a small group, you can usually order half a jin of beef dishes (one jin costs around 80-100 RMB depending on the cut).
If this place is full, nearby restaurants are also good, such as Niuniu, which offers both hotpot and grilling on the side of the pot, and vegetables are self-serve by weight, giving you great flexibility in selection—a more advanced model.
