Today's particularly warm and natural Kuosongping hike record, 2025.05.Jan

Summer Kuosongping record:

Spring Kuosongping in full bloom with azaleas

On a clear winter morning, we walked along the village ridge, crossed the white stone beach of the stream, and gradually ascended to the forest edge.

And our companions: puppy "Lucky" and "Custard"

The forest edge is the transition zone of the forest ecosystem, also known as the "forest edge space."

Here, especially at the boundary between forest and valley, various lovely plants thrive under abundant sunlight and moisture, showing greater diversity. Here we encountered plants we had never seen or noticed before.

In autumn and winter, Cangshan is covered with thick pine needles. We tread on this layer into Kuosongping. In spring, it becomes a sea of azaleas. When we arrived, a few small azaleas had already bloomed ahead of time.

In summer, it is surely an even more fantastic and spectacular fern world.

The morning sunlight is gentle, shining softly on our faces through the gaps of pine trees and white ferns. We prepared hot tea, fruits, and pastries, sat casually in the forest clearing of Kuosongping, chatted, and relaxed. That was the happiest moment of our mountain trip.

Among the newly sprouted azalea bushes, we heard chirping sounds. Xiao Xingyun (Little Lucky) went forward and found them in the bushes. Two siblings with distinct personalities—the bold sister wagged her tail at us, while the timid brother curled up in our arms. We took them down the mountain and named them: A Du and A Juan. They will continue to grow, and maybe you will meet them too. (Now, Yang Mi renamed one of them to "Xiao Xi" (Little Stream))

Xiao Xi's entry (2024.12.21)

On the way down, we passed Cuihua Pavilion and the Camp Ruins, said to be where Kublai Khan of the Yuan Dynasty temporarily stayed during his southern conquest of Dali. According to the "Qing Yi Tong Zhi · Dali Prefecture · Historical Sites," the camp ruins are located at Lanfeng Longyuan Nunnery in Taihe County, the camp of Emperor Kublai Khan of the Yuan Dynasty, also known as Cuihua Hall. The enchanting light and shadow here were my original reason for coming here.

Five-star review, if there were ten stars, I would give ten! The guide takes care of everyone. The kids were chattering, and he patiently answered all their questions and explained things to us. Along the way, he also introduced many Chinese herbal medicines. One hike, two experiences. The first part was a fern forest, and the second part had babbling brooks—the kids especially loved it! About 4 kilometers, 4 hours, both adults and kids had a great time! The noodle shop at the foot of the mountain was also delicious! I recommend it to all friends with kids!

This Dali forest hiking experience was a perfect 10! The forest is full of pine trees, with clear and beautiful streams. The ground is covered with pine needles, soft and bouncy to step on, creating an especially healing atmosphere. Our guide (Rini) was friendly and thoughtful, even preparing fruit and hot tea, which was very heartwarming. The accompanying dog, Summer, was lively and adorable, making the whole journey extra fun. The pace of the itinerary was relaxed without any rushing, and they were very accommodating when we needed to adjust the time on the spot. My younger sister even had a cozy nap lying in the forest. It was an incredibly comfortable day spent with family. Highly recommend, and a thousand thanks!
